Mysteries of the Earthsea

Chapter 189 Mountain Island

After two vortex crises, Charles did not dare to be careless. He not only let the bats observe from the sky all the time, but also let the sailors test the speed of the ship all the time.

Even though Charles was so vigilant, the Narwhal was in danger several times.

This sea area is full of whirlpools that appear like ghosts and ghosts. No one knows what the law of their appearance is, and when they will pop out.

Fortunately, they are not far from the island.

In Charles' sleep, the eyeballs under the tightly closed eyelids moved quickly. He was dreaming. Judging from his frowning expression, this dream was not a good dream.

Suddenly there was an exclamation from the side, and Charles opened his eyes instantly. He quickly jumped off the hammock and rushed towards Dipper who was steering beside him, "What's wrong? Is there a vortex again?"

"Captain, I don't see it very clearly. Is that an island?"

Charles narrowed his eyes slightly and looked towards the farthest point of the searchlight over there.

It's not like an island, it's more like a huge lotus leaf sticking out of the water. "It looks like an artificial building..."

Charles turned his head to look at the chart next to him, and found that it was almost time to arrive at his target island.

After letting the bats patrol around to make sure there was no danger, Charles drove the Narwhal slowly approaching.

Charles found that this thing seemed to be made of concrete, and it was not clear from a distance. Looking closer, he found that this thing was hundreds of meters high. The Narwhal sailed past it, feeling full of oppression.

For such a huge thing, just making it is probably not much easier than adding an island.

"Captain, there is another one over there." Hearing Di Pu's voice, Charles looked in the direction of his finger.

The ability of night vision allowed Charles to see that there were also huge concrete buildings standing on the sea on the left. If he guessed correctly, there were similar buildings in other places.

"Aren't these things used to prevent those vortexes?" A thought flashed through Charles' mind.

Under Charles' doubts, the Narwhal left these things and continued to move forward.

With the reminder of the previous things, Charles was not too surprised when he saw a new island appearing under the searchlight.

As the Narwhal circled the island, Charles got preliminary information about the islands.

This is a circular island with no plants or animals on it, and the ground seems to be very flat.

Except for some buildings, there is only one lone towering mountain left.

There are few peaks on the island, and such towering peaks are even rarer.

After throwing the fish without any response, let the bats and mice explore the way and everything is still normal, and it is time to disembark.

Looking at the crew members who were getting ready, Charles said to them: "Before disembarking, let me say one thing first. If you find any records on the island, you are not allowed to open the text records. You must wait for me to read them before making a decision. This matter is very important. Everyone must remember."

The crew members looked at each other, wondering why the captain announced this rule.

, "Is it... the reason for... the Pope..." Bandage asked slowly.

Charles glanced at him with a complicated expression and said nothing. With a wave of his hand, the sailors beside him began to lower the wooden boat.

The crew who were all ready to go slowly landed. Facing the unfamiliar island, everyone held their breath and took a flashlight to look around vigilantly.

They first explored the buildings located on the coast. Compared with the buildings on other islands, the builders here prefer to use reinforced concrete. Although this is very strong, it is more like a fortress than a house.

"Lily, let the rats go out to be vigilant, and let them warn as soon as possible in any situation."

"En." Lily nodded, she raised her head and squeaked twice, and the mice around her quickly slapped them out.

Charles was the first to rush into a fortress, but he came out quickly, and it was so empty that there was not even a dead body.

Charles searched from house to house, but found nothing. This place is different from the chaos in other places. The people here seem to have packed their bags and left calmly.

Charles didn't know whether this was good news or bad news.

They cleaned up so cleanly, which proves that the probability of clues here is very low, but it also proves that there should be no danger on this island.

The building complex is huge, and Charles took his crew to search for it for a long time before they could find it completely. During this period, they did not encounter any danger or any living things.

Charles ordered the crew to rest where they were, and wait until they had enough rest before continuing to search.

The bonfire was raised, and a short, fat man was diligently roasting the canned food.

It was the new cook of the Narwhal, to fill the vacancy left by Frey.

"Director Dipper, this is yours." He squinted his small eyes, and brought the opened and heated canned meat to Dipper.

"Are you blind? Didn't you see the captain here??" Dipper hit him on the head with his hand.

The chef nodded again and again, and brought the can in front of Charles again.

Without picking up his cans, Charles inserted his prosthetic limbs directly into the fire, took out a box of dark cans, knocked them open with a black blade, and ate them directly.

"Other people don't need you to send it if they have long hands. There is no bureau chief or minister of agriculture here. Do your own thing."

"Yes, yes." The chef nodded embarrassingly.

Seeing his timid look, Charles suddenly missed the thin bamboo pole Frey. Sometimes the companions are not just talking, but the tacit understanding between each other. Unfortunately, a lot has changed in three years.

There was the sound of swallowing and chewing around the campfire. Halfway through Charles's meal, he paused, tapped his forehead with his hand, and resumed eating.

"What? Hearing auditory hallucinations again?" The doctor asked endlessly.

Feeling the creeping sensation in his brain, Charles replied, "It's just a little bit, but it's bearable."

"Did you go to another doctor behind my back? According to your situation, within three years, you should have died long ago."

"Her method is very special. I heard that it can't last for too long and there is follow-up treatment."

"Interesting, introduce her to me when you have time, I would like to know how she did it."

"Yeah." Charles picked up a slice of bread, sucking the last of the gravy out of the can.

"Squeak-cheep-cheep!!" The mouse's scream suddenly sounded from the left, and Charles dropped the can and immediately stood up.

Lily, who was nibbling on dried bananas, swallowed the contents of her cheeks, "Mr. Charles, it's all right, they just found a dead body."

"Corpse? Let's go and have a look." Charles rushed in the direction of the voice.

Soon the corpse that Lily was talking about appeared in front of Charles, saying that the corpse was actually more accurately described as a skeleton, which was a skeleton with most of its body buried in the soil.

Picking up the bone and inspecting it quickly, Charles found that there was nothing unusual about the whole skeleton except for his golden front teeth.

"Foundation people? Do Foundation people have gold teeth?"

"Captain, look at this guy's pelvis. He's a man. And his leg was broken before." Dipper squatted on the ground and said.

Charles glanced at him unexpectedly, "You can still see this?"

Dipper smiled sheepishly. "In this position, if you don't want to be tricked by others, you have to learn something."

"Let's go, it's just a corpse, let's continue." As the light of the flashlight in the hands of Charles and others left, the corpse fell into darkness again.

An hour later, Charles' body suddenly appeared next to it. He took the transparent ring off his finger and scratched it with his hand in his clothes. "It didn't move, it looks like it's really just an ordinary corpse."
