The Decisive Battle Against the Third Reich

Chapter 622 Train Station

The 11th Army was divided into two parts.

One part was the 28th Jager Division led by Wagner.

Their mission was to capture the three Soviet divisions on the front of the Baku defense line.

This mission was relatively easy. They only needed to occupy the trenches being built by Soviet civilians with the cooperation of the Brandenburg detachment, set fire to them step by step, and then fill the defense gaps.

However, there were still some problems in the actual implementation. Many Soviet civilians did not cooperate with the command of the German army, and even launched a medium-sized riot at the last moment when the Soviet army returned... Later it was discovered that this was actually organized by Soviet political workers who mixed in with the civilians. When the German army launched an attack, they changed their uniforms and hid among the civilians. The German army failed to find them for a while and caused themselves a lot of trouble.

However, the German army finally survived this crisis. After all, the fire trenches were filled with oil, and after being ignited, the Soviet army was roughly blocked at the other end. The gap was also covered with a large number of mines by the German army, and the Soviet army could not break through quickly.

The other part was the 1st Mountain Division and the 1st Infantry Regiment led by Manstein.

Their primary target was the railway station.

The railway station was located north of Baku. It was the transportation hub for transporting gasoline and diesel produced by refineries in all directions of Baku to the Soviet Union. As long as it was controlled, the traffic connection between Baku and the north would be cut off.

At the same time, because there were many empty warehouses at the railway station and other directions of Baku were already overcrowded, this place was used as a settlement point for the defeated and wounded soldiers who retreated from the front line... The wounded were prepared to be transported to the Soviet Union for treatment, but because the Soviet front line was in urgent need of gasoline and diesel, the wounded were left aside first.

This also included the Soviet 392nd and 394th Infantry Divisions that were crippled and resting on the front line.

The German army was divided into several parts and sneaked to the railway station in the dark.

Although it was already dark, the train station was brightly lit. There were cars coming and going and the shouts of porters everywhere near the train station... They were busy transporting diesel and gasoline to the Soviet front.

As mentioned before, Baku produces 71.5% of the energy produced in the Soviet Union, so Baku's railway lines will never be idle at any time.

But now this situation is about to change.

Groups of German soldiers rushed into the station from the darkness with guns in hand. The Soviet people coming and going under the lights did not notice the Germans at first. They obviously thought that they were their own troops. After all, it was not uncommon to see fully armed troops at the station.

But when they saw that these soldiers were wearing German uniforms, they were stunned.

They wanted to shout but did not dare to shout, because several German soldiers had already pointed guns at them and signaled them to get off the train.

At first, the situation was still controllable. Teams of people were escorted by the Germans and gathered together for custody until a Soviet patrol team came up and found that the situation was different, raised their guns and were about to fight back... The German soldiers' guns rang.

The station was in chaos, people were running and dodging everywhere, and many Soviet soldiers who didn't understand the situation immediately grabbed their guns and ran towards the Germans... They obviously didn't realize that this was a large-scale German attack, and thought it was some infiltrated enemies or guerrillas who attacked by surprise.

(Note: There are also many anti-government armed forces in the Soviet Union, such as the Nightingale guerrillas in Ukraine. The German Brandenburg troops are very good at cooperating with these guerrillas, and sometimes even organize rescue of captured guerrilla members)

These stupid actions of the Soviet army are of course like moths to the flame. They were knocked down in a pool of blood by the Germans after a few moves.

The German soldiers were divided into several parts and rushed to all directions of the station. They needed to resolve the battle as quickly as possible and use everything they could.

The first infantry regiment was responsible for the warehouse.

For the railway station, the warehouse is always the most important and dangerous place, because it stores a large amount of military supplies, and even some vacant warehouses are used as temporary dormitories for stragglers.

Qin Chuan and his men soon realized this, because he was blocked by the firepower of the Soviet army on the opposite side when he crossed the railway tracks and ran towards the target.

"Mortar!" Qin Chuan ordered loudly: "The third company will provide firepower cover, the first and second companies will rush over from the two wings, and pay attention to using the train for cover!"

"Yes!" Several captains under Qin Chuan responded, and then each led their subordinates to prepare for battle.

With the "boom boom" sound of mortar explosions, the soldiers of the third company emerged from their hiding places and fired rows of bullets at the opposite side.

Although the target was basically invisible in the dark, the dense bullets fired by the MP43 could still suppress the Soviet army on the opposite side.

Qin Chuan waved his hand, and the first and second companies distributed on the two wings surrounded the Soviet army with guns.

The captain of the second company is the venomous snake Kuhn, who has sharp observation and judgment, and can always remain calm in critical moments... In this respect, what a commander needs is similar to that of a sniper, so Kuhn will also be a good commander.

The captain of the first company is Captain Richard, and Qin Chuan knows from his resume that he is a veteran who participated in World War I.

To be precise, Richard cannot be said to have participated in World War I... because Germany surrendered not long after he went to the battlefield.

In Richard's words, "I seem to have been sent to surrender to the enemy. I have never killed anyone or fought a war. If I hadn't fired two shots at a rotten piece of wood, I might have become a soldier who was captured without firing a shot!"

"This is not an honor!" Richard said, "But I keep it in my heart. I hope to return these shames to those who imposed the Treaty of Versailles on us!"

That year, Richard was only 16 years old. Now he is 40 years old and can be considered a veteran, but his physical fitness is still not much worse than that of young people, thanks to his never giving up training for so many years.

The two troops dispersed on the left and right, relying on the cover of the train to leap forward between bullets and shells, and soon approached the Soviet defense line, and then after firing a 50MM mortar shell, they rushed up with MP43.

There were only gunshots on the opposite side but no bullets were fired at this side, so Qin Chuan knew that the first and second companies had successfully broken through the Soviet defense line.

"Go!" Qin Chuan waved his hand and rushed forward with the three companies responsible for fire cover.

The well-trained German army has formed a fixed pattern, and even each infantry has clear regulations on which position to deploy and which unit to cover. This may be a stereotype, but it is very effective on the battlefield.
