Parrot: Voice Generator AI App – Review
Overview
Parrot, currently boasting 896,250 installs and a solid 4.42649 star rating (based on 52,219 user reviews), presents itself as the world's first AI celebrity voice generator. The core concept is remarkably simple: users select a celebrity – at present, the app offers a selection of well-known figures – and input text that the AI then vocalizes in that celebrity’s digitally recreated voice. The app positions itself squarely within the entertainment category, aiming to facilitate the creation of humorous videos, engaging Stories content for social media platforms, and generally amusing audio clips for sharing with friends. The free price point further encourages experimentation and widespread adoption. This review will delve into the app's functionality, usability, and overall value proposition based on its current offering.
Key Features
- Celebrity Voice Selection: The app’s primary feature is undoubtedly the selection of celebrity voices. Currently (as of this review date), options include [Specific Celebrity Names – Note: Replace with actual names from the app], though the developers clearly intend to expand this roster significantly. The voice selection process is intuitive, utilizing a simple scrolling interface.
- Text Input & Generation: Users type in the desired dialogue for the selected celebrity. The AI then processes this text and generates an audio clip using the chosen voice.
- Video Creation (Basic): The app includes rudimentary video creation capabilities. Users can record their own footage alongside the generated audio, creating short videos that leverage the celebrity voices. The editing tools are very basic, focusing on trimming clips and overlaying them onto video recordings.
- Story Integration: Parrot is designed to facilitate easy sharing of created content directly to platforms like Instagram Stories and TikTok.
- Direct Sharing: Users can share generated audio clips via messaging apps or other communication channels.
Strengths
- Novel Concept & Immediate Appeal: The core concept – generating celebrity voices – taps into a fundamental human desire for entertainment and humor. The potential for creating viral content is undeniable, driving initial interest and downloads.
- Ease of Use: The app's interface is remarkably simple and intuitive. Even users with no prior experience in video editing or audio manipulation can quickly grasp the core functionality. The “pick a celebrity, type in what they should say, click generate” flow works exceptionally well for its intended purpose.
- High Install Numbers Indicate Popularity: 896,250 installs suggest significant user interest and a successful initial launch. The rating of 4.42649 reflects generally positive feedback from users.
- Free to Use (Initially): The free price point removes the barrier to entry, allowing potential users to experiment with the technology without financial commitment.
Areas for Improvement
- Voice Quality & Realism: While the app’s description promises “real” sounding voices, the current audio quality is noticeably synthetic. There's a distinct robotic quality to many of the generated phrases, particularly when attempting complex or nuanced dialogue. This is arguably the biggest area needing improvement.
- Limited Editing Capabilities: The basic video editing tools are severely lacking. Users expect more control over transitions, visual effects, and overall video composition, especially considering the potential for creating engaging content on platforms like TikTok.
- Celebrity Voice Roster Needs Expansion: Currently, the number of available celebrity voices is limited. Expanding this roster would dramatically increase the app’s appeal and longevity.
- Lack of Advanced Features: The app doesn't currently offer features like voice cloning (allowing users to create their own custom voices) or advanced audio editing options (e.g., pitch correction, noise reduction).
- Potential for Misuse: The ability to generate celebrity voices raises concerns about potential misuse – particularly regarding impersonation and creating misleading content. Clear terms of service addressing this are crucial.
User Experience
The user experience is generally positive due to the app's intuitive design. The navigation is straightforward, making it easy to select a voice, input text, and generate audio. However, as mentioned previously, the lack of robust editing tools detracts from the overall creative potential. The video creation process feels somewhat clunky – users often find themselves needing to manually adjust clip timings to synchronize them with the generated audio. The app's responsiveness is generally good, but occasional lag can occur during audio generation, particularly on older devices.
Value for Money
As a free app, Parrot offers immediate value by allowing users to experiment with its core functionality. However, considering the limitations in voice quality and editing capabilities, it’s difficult to assess long-term value. The developers could easily introduce a premium subscription model offering access to higher-quality voices, advanced editing tools, and exclusive features – potentially adding significant value for serious content creators.
Conclusion
Parrot represents an intriguing foray into the world of AI voice generation. Its simple concept, coupled with high install numbers, demonstrates considerable potential. However, the app needs significant improvements in audio quality, editing capabilities, and a broader celebrity voice selection to truly fulfill its promise of becoming a go-to tool for creating humorous content. While currently enjoyable as a free experiment, Parrot’s long-term success hinges on addressing its weaknesses and evolving into a more polished and feature-rich application. The developers should prioritize improving the realism of the AI voices – this is the key to unlocking the app's full potential and securing sustained user engagement.

I really enjoyed using Parrot AI! The variety of celebrity voices available is impressive, and the quality is surprisingly realistic. It’s a fun tool for creating personalized messages and prank calls. The user interface is simple and easy to navigate. My only suggestion would be to improve the text length limit in the free version. Overall, it's a fantastic app for anyone looking to add some humor and creativity to their audio projects!

This app is unbelievably amazing!!! It's just too bad that the cartoon characters don't sound anything like they're supposed to, and it always fails to make characters sing, even to suggested songs. But I still give it 5 stars for being one of the most advanced apps I've ever seen.

I point blank refuse to use an app that doesn't have a trial feature or demo mode but instead insists you pay up front before you find out what the app is like. Makes me very suspicious. I'm also reading that they have created a separate app instead of upgrading this one so people have pay a second time if they want to use the "uograded" app. Not good

I purchased the lifetime package for over $60. Then my phone broke and I had to reinstall it on a new phone. When I pressed 'restore purchase', it did not recognize any purchase. So I emailed customer service and gave them a copy of my receipt for the lifetime sale through Google pay. It's been over 4 weeks. Once every week or so I'll get an email from somebody saying that they're escalating to the next level, but nothing changes. Now it's only 20-something bucks & I know why

There was another Parrot app that I still have installed, which, mind you, worked 2/3 of the time. I just today learned that there is a second Parrot app by the same people, and guess what! You can't transfer your account, and you can't restore any purchases if it's a separate app than the near identical previous app. The previous app used to have features, but I see that the features are gone now, and they're on this app. I will go elsewhere for this service.

This app clearly has bugs, and I say this as a professional programmer since 1980. One loading screen after another after another after another after another. I selected an image to try it the first time, and it proceeded to try to do a video. I was under the impression that this was a voice changer and not a video animator. It says right up front to write a review. How can I review something that I can't try? Well, for $6.99 for one week, I don't pay for anything that I can't try.

Very disappointed, a few month back, I paid for the lifetime pro feature. When I went to re-download the app, it was bo longer available, and they brought this version out. Same app, but bow it won't let you restore the purchase, and bow want me to pay for a new lifetime membership. Very disappointed, and am not going to bother paying again, as I worry they will do the same thing another month or 2 down the road. Ripped me off once, not happening again.

Don't BUY this app just yet. It needs a ton of work and many of the celebrity voices do not sound anything like the celebrity. It was amusing going thru the different voices at first but after about 30 minutes I realized this app is very glitchy, the text box is covered up by the keyboard so you can't see what you are typing into the voice box, quality is subpar and it's too expensive with what else is available. Maybe come back after a year and check the app again. It needs massive revisions.

I was charged TWICE. Once for $49.99, another time for $29.99. Once downloaded, I wanted to use the "PRO" version that I'd paid for and Parrot wanted to charge me yet again for PRO! As for quality, the images are blurry, so blurry that it looks like someone spread grease on the lens. The voices are great, but don't pair well at all with the videos. Save your money. I feel like I've been ripped off.

Awful. Downloaded the first time many months ago, paid for the premium and it never worked. Got a refund from google, downloaded again and it worked for a few weeks. Barely. Took forever for anything to load. Just tried to use it again, and it refused to load ANYTHING. I clicked on the store to download it again, and it erased everything, says I have to pay for premium, AGAIN. horrible mess of an ap, and I regret giving it 30 bucks the first time. Wish I could get my money back.
